37 years of IRS statistics

37 years of IRS statistics that are detailed and documented in the Tax and After Tax Study, 1973 to 2009 show the following:

  1. The SHARE of After Tax Income of Middle-Class and Working-Class taxpayers with taxable incomes of less than $200,000 was 25.53% in 1980 (73,721,324 taxpayers) and reduced to 0.93% in 2009 (100,251,990 taxpayers).
  2. The SHARE of After Tax Income of Upper-Income taxpayers with taxable incomes of $200,000 to less than $1,000,000 was 27.15% in 1980 (11,995 taxpayers) and reduced to 2.19% in 2009 (3,677,315 taxpayers).
  3. The SHARE of After Tax Income of Top Income taxpayers with taxable incomes greater than $1,000,000 was 47.32% in 1980 (4,389 taxpayers) and 96.88% in 2009 (235,665 taxpayers).
