Dairy farming

Dairy farming in America has ramped up its output to account for as much as $140 billion annually. But to satiate growing demand, farmers have expanded the use of standardized practices that are known to be particularly resource-intensive. In fact, it takes about 1,000 liters of water to produce one liter of milk, according to data from the non-profit Water Footprint Network.
